I have attempted to install it for testing, kept getting installation errors over and over, hence gave up. However, if you setup this server 2000 as a VM, you can perform a Non GRT backup and restore it successfully.

You could still use the BE 2010 remote agent and try to backup data. I am not sure if you want to achieve DR capability. If you are only wanting to backup file data from 2000 servers then, easier would be to not put an agent and perform a Share level backup from the server.
